WATCH: Dashcam Footage Of Mansfield Police Pursuit

MANSFIELD, OH - Three officers sustained injuries after a male refused to exit his vehicle, initiating a pursuit. 

On Tuesday, October 8th, 2019 at approximately 8:17 PM, officers stopped a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica at 680 North Main Street. The stop was made in reference to a license plate violation. The driver of the vehicle, 34-year-old Luke A. Porter was contacted and found to be wanted on several outstanding warrants. 

After officers spoke with the female front seat passenger, they requested Porter to exit the vehicle. Porter did not listen to the officers request and became non-compliant, according to a press release. 

Shortly after, Porter restarted the vehicle, put it in reverse, and fled the scene. The action caused three Mansfield Police Officers to sustain injuries. At least two offers were struck by the open doors of the suspect vehicle. The vehicle also struck a marked cruiser. 

Porter began traveling northbound on State Route 13 (North Main Street) at a high rate of speed. Officers were in pursuit, chasing porter for 20 miles. Porter made multiple traffic infractions while refusing to stop. 

Porter drove through several farm fields in an attempt to lost the pursuing officers before abandoning the vehicle and feeling on foot. 

Officers chased after Porter on foot at which time he was captured and taken into custody in the area of 282 Baseline Road West in Shiloh, Ohio. 

The front seat passenger advised officers she was trying to exit the vehicle as he began to flee but was grabbed by Porter and pulled back into the vehicle by her hair.

Porter was charged with Abduction, Felonious Assault on a Peace Officer, and Failure to comply. He was then transported to the Richland County Jail and Incarcerated. 

The three officers that were injured during the beginning of the pursuit sustained minor injuries and returned to work. 

The case remains under investigation.
