ASHLAND COUNTY, OH- A motorcyclist was injured in a two vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 9:50pm on Thursday in Mifflin Township.

39-year old Nathaniel Speelman of Mansfield was riding a motorcycle west on US Route 30 when 31-year old Derek Knowlton went to turn left off of US 30 eastbound onto County Road 1095.

Knowlton's 2012 Chevy Impala turned in front of the motorcycle causing Speelman to be ejected into the westbound lanes.  The Chevy then caught fire and became fully engulfed in flames.

Speelman sustained life threatening injuries in the crash.  He was wearing a helmet at the time. Knowlton was not injured during the crash.

Assisting the Ohio State Highway Patrol on the scene were the Ashland County Sheriff's Office, Hayesville and Mifflin Township Fire and EMS.

Highway Patrol says that speed appears to have played a role in the crash.  The incident remains under investigation.
