Crestline Festival; Pow-Wow, Mansfield Art Fest Weekend

MANSFIELD, OH - The Mansfield Symphony Orchestra will present its opening concert of the 2019-2020 Symphony Series, “Bohemian Souls” on Saturday, September 21, at 8pm at the Renaissance Theatre.           

Under the direction of Octavio Más-Arocas, the event will feature a program inspired by composers who were called unconventional in their day and one of the most famous of the evening - Dvorák 's Symphony No. 8. Also on the concert schedule, Tchaikovsky’s famous Violin Concert performed by violin virtuoso Francisco Fullana.  A Spanish-born violinist, Fullana is winner of the 2018 Avery Fisher Career Grant and is hailed as a "rising star". 

At 7:00pm, hear music historian Mark Sebastian Jordan in “Symphony Chat” on the second-floor ballroom of the Renaissance Theatre.

Make your way to Crawford County in Crestline for the Crestline Harvest Festival on now through Saturday.

The festival will feature a farmer's market and craft expo, and plenty contesting. Saturday is the annual pancake breakfast at 7am at the Crestline Fire Station, with a car show to follow at 9am, and a parade at 3:30pm.

There will be a variety of food vendors, amusement rides, games and more. 


The second of two weekends of the Great Mohican Pow-Wow begins Fridayon Wally Road in Loudonville's Mohican Country at the Mohican Reservation. 

This is a traditional celebration to sustain and preserve Native American traditions and culture. The Pow-Wow will be busy with traditional Indian ceremony, dancing and competitions as well as traditional Native American story-telling.

Richland Community Development Group's Art in the 'Field - The Mansfield Art Festival, is also Saturday, September 21st, in Central Park, in Downtown Mansfield.

Local artists will display their work in a variety of mediums from painting, photography, glass jewelry and ceramics to sculpture, wood and food and music art - yes, I said food art! 

Take in performances by street musicians and performers, the Richland Newhope dancers, and other talented youth and adults.   

The Mansfield Art Fest takes place Saturday from noon to 7pm. 


And beginning September 23rd, Monday, the Ashland University Box Office will begin selling to the public a seasonal event favorite - the 44th Annual Madrigal Feaste tickets.

Feaste dates are November 20-24th at Redwood Hall on campus.

The Madrigal Feaste is a dinner theater show with entertainment throughout the evening that revolves around a four-course dinner and flaming pudding.    

The Ashland University Chamber Singers perform ceremonial Christmas music, carols and madrigals, while the Madrigal Players of the AU Theater Department will present a comedic play along with improvisational theatrics throughout the dinner. 

As a formal soprano in the madrigals, this was a favorite performance of mine!
